Blast Furnace Control System Upgrade
CSD Engineers was contracted for FEL studies by a major metals client to migrate an obsolete control system to current generation. This 10,000+ point DCS was a mixture of Westinghouse WDPF and Allen Bradley PLC-5 to control a blast furnace. Throughout this project the focus was on reusing as much code as possible due to a tight shut-down window, demo of the old system, installation of the new control platform, and commissioning/start-up services. CSD Engineers provided DCS Programming and PLC Programming for the niche main system integrator. The project successfully deployed an Emerson Ovation control system as the primary DCS, with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix running specific processes throughout the furnace.
